When I first started this blog I wanted it to be more than just about design, I wanted it to be a place for me to share my thoughts on everything - love, loss, a sense of home, friendship, love of God, everything that encapsulates me as a person. Admittedly that is hard at times and I have fallen into a habit of posting photos, lovely ideas, and other miscellaneous things instead of being entirely truthful about life.For some reason, today specifically, I feel guilty about that. Like I've somehow wronged my readers and myself in the process. This is due to a combination of things brought to a head by Leah at The Way We Are - it takes such incredible strength to share both good times and bad with not only your closest friends and family members but perfect strangers as well. At the same time, it is such a refreshing thing to realize that there are others out there to whom you can look to for not only design inspiration but encouragement in times of despair. I have been so very blessed by my blogger friends from Nita at Mod Vintage Life (discussing the despairs of a creative mind in the business world) to Debianne at Cowgurl's Blessing who is a constant source of unending faith in Serendipity and now Marta at Marta Writes who has written so honestly about such tough subjects.Our weekly bible study topic yesterday in my small group was a discussion of sharing "the heat", not being afraid to tell others when the going gets rough. This has been a hard week for me - I can't really explain what its like to be forced into moving on from a relationship that has brought so much comfort while simultaneously so much heart ache. It is both difficult and illuminating at the same time. . .I know God has a plan for my life, I can rest in that faith and he will lead me to "still waters" and undoubtedly renew my soul. Thank you so much to all of you who share your trials and never waiver in your friendship. Sending love, kisses, hugs, and blessings your way!!!

I just found RSH Catalog this week (thanks to Country Living magazine). They have a truly lively mix of home decor with relatively affordable prices - aren't we all thankful for that? ;) Check out the beautiful Robin's Egg Blue background color in their photos. . .I think that might be my favourite aspect! My mother has always told me that you should have something Asian in your home-it brings good luck, it creates whimsy, and it insures that your style is not monotonous by throwing in something unexpected. I've always agreed with her but as I look around my home I realize, I haven't done that at all. Now I do have a few lovely plates in my kitchen but the rest of the house is totally void of Asian accents, something I must remedy soon!
Odi (or her guest blogger rather) suggests the following pieces:

There really is nothing out there as beautiful or as dainty and delicate in my opinion, mind you they cost a FORTUNE! I quite like Anthropologie's take on the subject:While we're discussing imports from the other side of the world, I've been head over heels for this company for ages. AGES I tell you!!!:One of those fabulous companies who's products are only available to the trade - - -I need a client to give me an excuse to set up an account and buy buy buy!
Back to the list, let me add just a few other elements:

13) A lovely antique silk hanging of some sort. Rank badges, for instance are wonderful and look great framed:(my selection is from Showcase Antiques)

*Fire-candles in the rice paper lanterns count and anything red-for instance, in fabric counts as well.

Most of you that read regularly or know me personally know that my dad passed away when I was little, but that's no reason not to celebrate today! Happy Father's day to all of you wonderful dad's out there - including mine (for him, I'll say UP there!) =) It has been a wonderful weekend - spending time with my other parent though - I couldn't have a better Mom, so happy day to her as well! Petite HousesI'm always so overwhelmed by the loveliness on Apartment Therapy's small house tours> how can 365 sq ft be this cute when I'm so frustrated and claustrophobic with 900 sq ft?Moreover, I think the bigger question would be: why am I the world's greatest designer for my clients and completely inept when it comes to designing for myself? I don't get it.

Must Haves in a Home
I loved this post from Hooked on Houses last week-“If you moved into a completely new, empty house and started over–and money was no object–what are 20 specific things you’d consider ‘must haves,’ from architectural details to furniture and accessories?”Ahhhhh my list is much longer than 20, but here's a basic idea:1) A claw-foot tub in at least one bathroom (but preferably all of them):2) A HUGE walk-in closet just for me!:3) Classic Architecture (Victorian preferred):4) Lots of windows with lots of light!:5) A great foyer/entry way:6) Fireplaces:7) A massive kitchen with white cabinets, Carerra marble tops (except on the butcher block which would be bamboo), Jadeite dishes, farmhouse sink, and stainless steel appliances (except for the white or maybe even polka dot AGA):8) Space in the backyard to create a formal garden:9) Space in the front yard to create an informal cottage garden:10) A room (maybe in an attic) to be used as an office/work space/nap space where I can make a big mess whenever I want to and no one will have to see it:11) Built-in bookcases & shelves for storage: You really can't ever have enough storage space can you?
